HEMSET

Pre-shrunk to help reduce shrinkage.

This guide explains the pre-shrunk preparation used in the tees and long sleeves shown below. You can also compare their fabric weights, cuts and finishes before choosing a piece.

Fabric detail from the classic 240 g/m² tee.

What does pre-shrunk mean?

HEMSET is our name for the pre-shrunk preparation used in the pieces shown in this guide. The fabric is washed and dried before cutting to help reduce later shrinkage when cared for as directed.

Each piece has its own composition, fabric weight and finishing details. Some change in size can still occur, so check the product page and follow the care label on your garment.

Take a closer look at the details.

Before the first wash.

Follow the care label on your garment. The pieces in this guide should be turned inside out and washed in cold water. Hand washing is recommended for the sun-faded long sleeve and raw-hem crop; their color may continue to fade with wear and washing.

Washing, drying and heat

Use the mild or neutral detergent specified for your piece. Avoid bleach, soaking and direct sunlight. The classic 240 g/m² and boxy 280 g/m² tees call for a gentle cold cycle with similar colors. Avoid rubbing or wringing them, and hang them to dry in the shade.

These eight styles should not be dry cleaned. Their care instructions call for low temperatures when ironing, steaming or tumble drying. Check the product's Fabric & care details and follow the care label on your garment.

Questions about fabric and care.

Can a pre-shrunk piece still shrink?

Yes. Pre-shrinking helps reduce later shrinkage when you follow the care instructions, but some change in size can still occur. Check the care label before washing or drying your piece.

What does g/m² mean?

It stands for grams per square meter: the weight of one square meter of fabric. Use it to compare fabric weights. It doesn't tell you the total weight of a garment or how soft the fabric will feel.

Do all HEMSET pieces use the same fabric?

No. The composition, weight, cut and finish vary by piece. The 210 g/m² long sleeve also has a color-specific difference: the White and Black body is 100% combed cotton, while Medium Heather Gray is 90% combed cotton and 10% viscose. The collar contains cotton and polyester; the proportions are not specified. Check the details for the product and color you're choosing.

Will the washed styles change color?

They can. The sun-faded long sleeve and raw-hem crop have a washed, faded finish, and their color may continue to fade with wear and washing. Hand washing is recommended for these two styles. Follow the care label on your garment.

Where can I find the care instructions?

Open Fabric & care on the matching product page for its washing, drying and heat instructions. Check the label on your garment before you wash it, too. The styles in this guide call for cold washing inside out; hand washing is recommended for the two washed styles.
